 Homemade Coffee Liqueur

This vegan homemade coffee liqueur is simple to create. It can be used in place of Kahlua to give your next White Russian or Coffee Negroni a powerful, earthy, and slightly sweet punch.

Ingredients :

  • 1 1/2 cups of coarsely ground Arabica coffee beans
  • 2 cups aged rum
  • 1 cup vegan dark brown sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

STEPS :

     1. Place ground coffee and rum in container and shake :

In an airtight container with a firm seal, combine rum and ground arabica coffee beans; a sizable mason jar is ideal.

Shake the jar lightly and keep it in a dark, cool area for three weeks, shaking it gently every few days.

     2. Strain coffee liqueur :

Once the infusion is complete, strain the mixture through a coffee filter or nut milk bag, pressing the bag or filter to extract as much liquid as possible. Coffee beans are thrown away and set aside.

     3. Make simple syrup :

In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, add the brown sugar and water; whisk continuously to let the sugar dissolve. Turn off the fire and leave the mixture to cool slightly once the sugar has dissolved and the mixture has just begun to faintly boil.

     4. Finish coffee liqueur and store :

Brown sugar simple syrup and vanilla essence should be whisked together. Stir the simple syrup with the rum that has been infused with coffee. Pour the liquor into a fresh, airtight bottle with a swing top. Before using, seal and place in the refrigerator.
